Clutch or gearbox?
Signs that point to the clutch:
- The engine revs but the car doesn't pick up speed
- The pedal feels different, higher or softer
- A burning smell after pulling away
Signs that point to the gearbox:
- Gears that grind, crunch or won't engage
- Harsh, late or jerky shifts
- A whine that changes with speed
- A gearbox warning light
On a dual-clutch (DCT) car the two can feel alike, which is why we diagnose before recommending work.
